Hospital expands cleaning contract
Category: Washing and Ironing
The announcement follows reports that a shortage of clean bed sheets on a number of wards across Mater Hospital had meant many beds could not be changed, according to BBC News.
In some cases, a lack of clean laundry led to some patients being forced to remain on trolleys as they waited for clean beds to become available.
Ian Jameson, co-director of patient services, explained the hospital has had problems with clean supplies of bed linen for around six weeks but that the new contract with an alternative cleaning agency should improve the situation immediately.
He added: "The situation declined and I had to serve notice on the contractor and we have a new contract in place and it will commence on Monday."
Mater Hospital Trust provides health support to North Belfast and surrounding areas, with a range of services including emergency and accident treatment, day procedures, mental illness and maternity.
Cleaning agencies can provide a whole host of commercial cleaning solutions including window cleaning and laundry cleaning services.
