Findings published by industry PR specialist Ceris Burns International (CBI PR) revealed that the importance of thoroughly cleaning the home and office is often underestimated.
Some 200 people participated in the survey, and the vast majority said that a clean environment was essential for health and hygiene.
Technology was also highlighted as essential in helping to maintain the upkeep of a property.
The figures showed that the majority (78 per cent) of participants said that machinery is more effective than a mop.
A significant number of respondents said that equipment like floor cleaners and polishes, and window cleaning systems were essential tools in cleaning a place effectively.
Furthermore, 66 per cent said effectiveness is the single most important aspect when designing cleaning equipment or services.
In addition, (72 per cent) said that cleaning makes them feel satisfied, while 38 per cent said it makes them feel contented.
The report also revealed that the presence of cleaners in branded uniforms played a major role in instilling confidence in workers, with over half (51 per cent) claiming they would prefer to see cleaners in branded uniforms.
However, communication remained a key challenge for many of the survey's respondents, with 34 per cent of people surveyed said they never talk to a cleaner at work, even though many cleaners operate during normal, business hours.
The study serves to highlight the important role that office cleaning plays for many of today's workers.
Therefore, firms which invest in professional office cleaners are much more likely to boost the morale and productivity of its workforce.
