Valentine's clean up down under
Category: Mattress Cleaning
Valentine's Day can be fun for hotel guests, but often means more work for hotel staff, with rooms often needing both mattress cleaning and carpet cleaning.
A room attendant from the 396-room Melbourne Hilton Hotel told The Herald Sun: "There were flower petals scattered all over the floors, spilt champagne everywhere and some very questionable stains all over the beds.
"We see exotic fruits and chocolates ground into the carpets, bubble bath all over the bathroom and massage oils all over the bed."
The 120,000 member strong Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Union, which is affiliated to the Australian Labour Party, complained that staff were not allocated extra cleaning time to cope with the additional work. Workers claim that the after party cleaning can often take around 45 minutes per room, but only 15 minutes are allotted by the management.
Members of the union organised a strike in front of the Hilton South Wharf Hotel in Melbourne. The protest included staff handing out cleaning cloths to passers-by and asking people to assist them.
