Cleaning - What needs doing when?
Category: Home Cleaning
However, it's easy to get so obsessed with cleaning that you spend all your time doing it. So how often should you be taking care of your house, without it taking over your life?
Well, let's start by saying that not everything needs to have a deep clean every week - we're sure your mattress will survive for a while before needing to be given some TLC.
Let's look at three big problem areas and see how often they need cleaning.
You and everybody else in the house will probably use the bath or shower at least once a day, so can you imagine how much nasty bacteria it's harbouring? Probably more than your toilet or bin, if truth be told, so it's worth giving the bathtub a thorough clean regularly - perhaps once a week with a good sponge and bathroom cleaning spray.
This is another room that gets some pretty intense treatment every day, so treat it accordingly and make sure it's cleaned on a regular basis. We don't just mean giving the floor a cursory sweep and wiping down the worktop with a wet cloth. Plenty of nasty bugs could build up in your fridge and microwave if they aren't cleaned regularly too.
You'll probably get out the vacuum cleaner pretty regularly, as it doesn't take long for visible dirt to build up on carpet. But what about invisible dirt? Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not there, so we would recommend you get your floors steam cleaned every six to 12 months. It's worth bringing in a professional cleaning service to do this job, as they'll use specialist equipment to clean the surface and remove any potentially harmful bacteria. Remember that if you have a pet, you could need to do it even more frequently, as pet hairs and associated bugs can get everywhere!
