Study finds steam cleaning is most effective
Category: Hard Floor Cleaning
According to a Literature Review entitled Control of the Environment, periodic steam cleaning of floors helps to disinfect surfaces and improves overall hygiene levels
The benefits of steam cleaning were found to be particularly visible in hospital settings, where it was successful in completely disinfecting surfaces with MRSA, Acinetobacter and Clostridium difficile spores.
Researchers discovered that chemical-free steam cleaning also helps to eliminate bacteria, mould, mildew and chemical contaminants, leaving materials and surfaces clean, odour-free and with minimal amounts of water residue.
The survey shows that while normal contract cleaning techniques leave glass and mirrors with chemical residues and smears, dry steam cleaning leaves such surfaces completely free of unsightly streaks.
Health secretary Nicola Sturgeon said: "Cleanliness is crucial in our hospitals and is a simple way to help combat infections like MRSA and C.difficile.
"Steam cleaning is a particularly effective way of cleaning areas affected by C.diff and substantially increasing the number of steam cleaners available to the NHS will ensure they are available locally when needed."
