Are you vacuuming the right way?
Category: Domestic Cleaning
So what's the right way to vacuum then?
Invest in a decent vacuum
You might think that spending hundreds of pounds on a vacuum is excessive, but it pays to shell out for a vacuum cleaner that will do the job properly.
There are many options that are affordable, so do your research, but if you go with the cheap and cheerful option, you'll find it's probably much less efficient than you'd like.
Empty it regularly
Whether your vacuum cleaner has a bag or a built-in dust compartment, you need to ensure you're emptying or changing it regularly. If you don't, then build-up of dust, hair and other household dirt will make it far less efficient and the suction much less powerful.
Slow down a bit
You might feel an added sense of achievement if you finish the vacuuming in half the time it usually takes. However, like any cleaning task, speeding through means you've not done a thorough job.
By going at a slower pace, the brushes on the vacuum are able to better disturb the carpet fibres and free up more dust, dirt and crumbs that are in the carpet.
Go both ways
Just going up and down the room with the vacuum won't necessarily get fully into the fibres of your carpet, so you risk leaving half of the dirt where it is. To make sure you really get the carpets clean, vacuum in both directions.
You might now find that vacuuming is going to be a much more arduous task than usual if you want your carpets to be truly clean. If you don't fancy spending extra time on it, then why not call in a professional to do the cleaning for you?
