Household cleaning is a workout too
Category: Domestic Cleaning
You don't need to be concerned though, because did you know that cleaning is actually great for burning calories?
Vacuuming, cleaning windows and getting gritty in the garden are all great exercises for building strength, toning muscle and, if done with enough pace, pumping your cardiovascular system.
Pushing and pulling a vacuum cleaner around your home is great for your arms and abdomen. Also, if you focus on squeezing your muscles while you work then the effects can be even better. Just 30 minutes of vacuuming can burn 90 calories.
We know you'd prefer for everyone in the family to make their own beds, but if that's a battle that you're losing then think about the benefits to you instead. By making beds for 30 minutes you can work off 130 calories, which makes those biscuits you had this morning seem much more acceptable.
Okay, so it's the worst task and you really don't want to have to do it, but scrubbing the bathroom is actually one of the best chores to double as a workout. Scrubbing the toilet, bath and shower can work off a massive 200 calories in 30 minutes. It doesn't seem as bad now when you compare it to the treadmill, does it?
The best chore though is gardening, which can burn 315 calories in 30 minutes. Grab your trowel and gloves and get mucky in the garden. As well as being a good workout, it can actually be pretty therapeutic too.
If you really don't fancy this though, then we recommend you get in the experts to do it for you.
