Sustainable cleaning ideas

Making up your own cleaning solutions is not only more affordable and natural - it is sustainable as well.

If, for whatever reason, you do not want to use harsh chemical cleaners in your home, then you may want to try using homemade natural alternatives instead.

Of course, it is not always possible to substitute mainstream cleaning products with natural ones, but they do work well for many of the everyday cleaning jobs around the house.

And if you do go for these alternatives, at least you can rest in the knowledge that it is not only safer for you, but better for the environment as well.

All you need is a few basic ingredients to get you started.

The first ingredient you will definitely need when it comes to home cleaning is baking soda or bicarbonate of soda.

This is one of the most versatile and popular products in the home, because it is good for so many different things.

By mixing this with water or warming it slightly, you have a nice, natural anti-bacterial cleaning agent to use across the home.

Another major ingredient you will need is lemon. Its acidic content means that it is able to cut through grease and grime and leave a nice refreshing fragrance as well.

You can also go for lemon essential oil, which works just as well.

Castile soap is another great option for sustainable cleaning. This type of soap is usually made from oil - such as olive oil for example.

This is a fantastic product to use all over the home - and also when washing yourself as well.

If you use external Cleaning Companies, and you are allergic to any chemicals that may be found in cleaning products, flag this up beforehand, so that they can come prepared with natural alternatives.

Many cleaners will often use their own products, but if you do have others which you prefer to be used instead, then you may want to use those as an alternative.
