Does your carpet need cleaning?
Category: Carpet Cleaning
We vacuum a few times each week, so surely they're clean enough? Well unfortunately, this isn't actually the case.
You need to shampoo your carpets to get rid of that deep-rooted dirt that is below the surface. How often depends on the type of carpet that you have.
If you have a warranty, it may state that you should have the product professionally steam cleaned annually. In fact, many carpet manufacturers do recommend once-a-year cleaning.
However, different carpet materials will need cleaning more often than others. For example, synthetic fibres can attract more dirt than natural fibres such as wool, which have a high level of stain resistance.
Whether you have children or pets in the home will also determine the frequency of your cleaning needs, since spilled drinks, sticky fingers and muddy paws can really take their toll. Twice annually or once every nine months may be necessary in your home if it sees more wear and tear.
If you live alone or with one other person and you take very good care of your carpets - vacuuming regularly and taking off your shoes every time you enter the house - then you could go up to two years between professional cleanings, but don't leave it too long.
Whatever length of time you feel is right, you should see carpet cleaning as preventative maintenance. Allowing soil to build up in the fibres prior to cleaning will only serve to reduce the life of the carpet and make cleaning more difficult when you do get around to it.
Also, once you've had it cleaned by a professional, you'll find that it stays much cleaner as long as you continue to vacuum on a regular basis.
