Is your carpet cleaning causing more damage?
Category: Carpet Cleaning
There are several methods of carpet cleaning, and wet methods using a detergent is certainly one of the most popular as it's fairly cheap and easy to do yourself at home. You can even hire a carpet cleaning machine to use yourself at home, but if you don't know how to use it properly then you won't be getting the full benefit. In fact, you could be inadvertently ruining your carpet.
The biggest mistake people make when shampooing their carpets is that they do not rinse out all of the detergent, and as a result their carpets soon end up looking dirtier than before. The job of detergent is actually to attract dirt, so if there's residue left in your carpet it will act as a magnet for the dirt. Your carpet will be looking as good as new for a few weeks, but then it will start to look dingy very quickly, and might even feel sticky.
Not only is this annoying after you've just put in all that time and effort, but it can also be potentially harmful if you have pets or small children spending lots of time on the floor.
You can spend more time washing out the detergent, but then you run the risk of getting the carpet too wet. The longer the fibres take to dry, the bigger the risk of mould and mildew forming.
Alternatively, if you hire a carpet cleaning company they can do the work for you. Not only will they be able to clean your carpet to a much higher standard than you could yourself, they will also ensure that it stays looking fabulous for months to come.
