Instagram is the place we all go to see beautiful things – from homes to travel to fashion – but it turns out there’s an appetite for tips on how to keep things beautiful on the platform too. That’s what Mrs Hinch has found anyway.
She has not been sharing her cleaning advice on the social media site for long, but she has already earned herself a long list of followers. In fact, the #HinchArmy, as she refers to them, now number more than half a million and growing.
Mrs Hinch goes by the username mrshinchhome_x_ and is an Essex housewife called Sophie Hinchcliffe. She started her account by showing immaculate photos of her home, but soon started to share tips on keeping it this way through Instagram Stories.
Instagram users have welcomed her amusing presenting style, quirky phrases and nicknames for her cleaning sponges. Despite her content seeming light-hearted, she gets results from her thorough cleaning processes.
Mrs Hinch’s cleaning obsession came as a response to anxiety, finding that taking control of her home in this way helped her to cope. It’s a feeling that many may be able to identify with, as a clean and tidy home helps to settle the mind.
She told The Sun: “I’ve always been a worrier. But whenever I felt like I might have a panic attack, I would then get up and grab a cloth or a mop or a hoover and just start going. I thought personally it was just me but I never realised how many men and women out there suffer with anxiety. They’ve all said that this has helped them beyond belief.”
Her potential has not been missed by television bosses either, who were keen to see her on the small screen. After being interviewed by Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield on This Morning recently, she presented a short segment on cleaning tips.
It went down so well with viewers that Mrs Hinch will be a regular on the show, meaning even those on Instagram will be able to benefit from her advice. It looks like the #HinchArmy knows no limits.
Here are some of the best cleaning tips that Mrs Hinch has shared so far:
- Use watered down fabric conditioner to clean doors. This hack allows you to remove marks without damaging the paintwork.
- To remove food mess from a wooden floor, spray it with degreaser, then work off with an electric toothbrush, before finally wiping it away with a cloth.
- White vinegar and a fluffy microfibre cloth is the best way to ensure mirrors are smear-free.
- Rub bicarbonate of soda into stains on a mattress using latex gloves. Leave for an hour and then vacuum away.
To clean the washing machine, pull out the drawer and clean the space with bathroom spray and limescale remover. Clean behind the rim with more bathroom spray and an electric toothbrush.
