London house cleaner's jobs look set to get a lot easier following the announcement that Ariel washing powder is to be released in a gel form.

Ariel owners Proctor & Gamble already stock a gel version of the clothes cleaner in capsules, but will now release a similar formula in a concentrated bottle form.

This offers London cleaning companies charged with clothes washing with an environmentally friendly alternative to ordinary washing powders.

The company has already showcased its green credentials with its "turn to 30" campaign encouraging London domestic cleaners to save power with their washing machines.

Meanwhile, recent research has suggested that biological washing powders do not cause skin conditions such as eczema.

The new Ariel gel will be dispensed into a washing machine drawer in a squeezable ketchup-style container.
