Spring cleaning combats allergies - 20/05/2008

Spring cleaning does more than make your house look nice, it can also combat allergies too, according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA).

However, recruiting a cleaning agency to give your house a one-off domestic cleaning overhaul could be the answer to many-a-household's allergy woes.

The AAFA notes that perfume, deodorants, cleaning chemicals and even paint can impact on those susceptible to allergic reactions.

Medical expert Dr Alan Greene warns that it is important not allow domestic cleaners to over do it with harsh chemicals.

He said: "It is important to avoid obsessively over cleaning your home, therefore preventing allergen immunities from forming.

"Instead, use non-toxic cleaning products and omit other irritants from the immediate environment."

According to the AAFA, allergy is the 5th leading chronic disease in the US and can even be caused by household pests such as cockroaches.
