Residents in Ripon may have to find alternative cleaning companies to do their window cleaning after their local window cleaner was elected Mayor.

However, Mayor of Ripon Sid Hawke has assured his customers that their homes will not suffer as he will continue with his usual window cleaning round alongside his mayoral duties at Ripon City Council.

Mr Hawke explained that the window cleaning actually compliments official work as it exposes him to the local people he represents.

He told the Darlington and Stockton Times: "I enjoy cleaning windows because being on the round means I am out and about meeting and chatting to the people I represent."

But Mr Hawke, who also sits on Harrowgate Borough Council as an independent member, has conceded he will not be able to keep up his full commercial and residential window cleaning schedule.
