Mould was found to have spread onto the underside of ceiling tiles and onto its walls. According to Best Restorations, the cleaning company that conducted the operation, the problem could easily become far worse if left untreated. Harold Ettinger, vice president of Best Restorations, claimed that several other attempts to clean up the mould by hospital staff had failed. He said: "Previous cleaning crews tried to remove the mould with sandpaper and grinders, but that proved ineffective and actually damaged the cedar joists and beams in the ceiling. "The manual process of completely removing the mould from the attic and ceiling would have taken a large cleaning crew working under difficult conditions several weeks to complete just the mould remediation process." Dry ice cleaning is also thought to remove around 99.9 per cent of all mould spores, reducing the chances of the mould returning and keeping the hospital's staff and patients safe. ![]() |
