Cleaning your own sleeping bag

Those making good use of their sleeping bags this summer have been advised to try and clean them themselves.

As the summer festival season gets into full swing and dry cleaning prices rising the advice, outlined in the Olympian, could make good sense.

However, Briton's should avoid throwing sleeping bags in with the rest of their domestic cleaning and laundry.

The newspaper advises that sleeping bags are handwashed in a non-detergent soap.

It also advises to dry them outside, but observes "if you use a tumble dryer, set it at low heat and monitor the process. Overheating can cause melting."

"Also, toss a couple of tennis balls late into the dryer cycle to smooth out clumps in the bag's insulation," the article explained.

However, those concerned about the environment are likely to be far more inclined to leave the tumble dryer well-alone.
