Computer cleaning is about more than "cosmetic" demands, it has been claimed.

While office cleaning can often be a means to ensure a comfortable environment to work in, dirt can actually cause computer malfunction.

According to Computer Active, dust sucked in with air used to cool the computer can collect on the circuits and in the fan itself, increasing the risk of having a noisy machine.

In worse case scenarios, dust build up can get so bad that computers just overheat and stop working.

Meanwhile, keyboard cleaning can not only prevent against key malfunction, caused by wayward scraps of food and dirt getting stuck, but can also pose a health risk.

A survey by Bringham Young University in the US recently suggested that a cleaner environment is also important for retaining a workforce.

It found that cutting commercial cleaning services can have a significant impact on retaining staff and students at universities.
