Flood and fire damage 'requires Professional Cleaners'

People whose homes have been damaged by floods or fires should wait for Professional Cleaners to sort out their house.

According to ServiceMaster Clean, damage from such incidents can be "irreparable" if it is not dealt with straight away by Professional Cleaners.

The organisation warns that when it comes to water damage, the growth of mould can begin within hours, so people must act quickly by calling Professional Cleaners.

While waiting for them to come, homeowners should remove all loose floor coverings and stop any long drapery from touching the floor, and as much air movement as possible should be created.

One important safety tip offered by the organisation is to ensure all electrical equipment is turned off in rooms with standing water before entering them.

When it comes to smoke damage, it is important to act within 48 hours in order to stop it causing irreversible damage, noted the experts.

Until restoration professionals arrive, do not touch anything with bare hands as the skin's natural oils can create soot, and homeowners should not attempt to clean walls by themselves, but wait until the experts arrive.
