Carpet cleaning machines offer some of the best ways to keep the home clean and fresh, an expert has advised.

According to lifestyle writer Mary Hunt, author of 18 books and founder of Debt Proof Living, steam cleaning machines are perfect for removing stains from carpet fibres and eliminating the risk of residues.

Writing in Pasadena Star News, Ms Hunt warned that using soap for rug cleaning could backfire because it could be very difficult to rinse out no matter how hard you try.

Instead, she advised homeowners to make use of liquid spot removers in conjunction with their cleaning machines.

"With no soap at all, only the power of the spot remover, I go to work," Ms Hunt explained.

"It is truly amazing how that hot water pulls out everyday dirt and dust. Because the water is so hot and it gets sucked back up so quickly, the carpet dries in no time."

She pointed out that cleaning machines have such powerful extractors and suction nozzles that they are capable of removing almost every drop of water without leaving any sticky residues.
