Get latex paint stains up with Carpet Cleaning

Latex paint can be one of the toughest substances to remove when Carpet Cleaning, and one expert has offered tips on how to best achieve this.

Mary Hunt writes on Stardem.com of how Carpet Cleaning can best prevent latex paint from spoiling a perfectly good floor covering.

She advises saturating the stain with lacquer thinner, but notes that it is important not to substitute this for paint thinner, mineral spirits or anything else.

It should be applied with a clean white cloth, the expert notes, so that there is no chance of any colour from the cloth being transferred to the carpet.

The person carrying out the Carpet Cleaning should then allow the lacquer thinner to sit on the carpet for a while to soften the paint.

After this, it can be scraped, blotted or scrubbed away with the white cloth.

If the paint is particularly old, this process may need to be repeated a number of times.

Ms Hunt does issue a warning however. The thinner is highly combustible, so after the cleaning process the cloth should be allowed to air dry and then laundered appropriately.

This follows advice on the Angie's List website that noted giving the carpet a good scrub could be good for health, as it gets rid of any allergens trapped in the material.
