Britons need to be careful not to overexert themselves doing domestic cleaning chores over the bank holiday, according to the British Chiropractic Association (BCA).

Research commissioned by BCA found that more than half of Britons currently suffer back pain and the number of instances has increased by five per cent over the last year.

But with housework such as domestic cleaning one of the nation's five top back pain triggers, it may be advisable to put your feet up and hire a domestic cleaner to give the house a spring clean.

Tim Hutchful of the BCA notes that people are more likely to overexert themselves trying to take advantage of the extra day off.

"People look forward to a day off work so much that they tend to cram a great deal in to make the most of it," he explained.

With 19 per cent of the population taking more than a week off work for back pain, a small one-off cleaning agency payment could be a sound investment over the three-day weekend.
