end of tenancy cleaning

Domestic cleaners have been urged to make sure they deal with mould as quickly as possible in order to prevent serious health complaints.

According to Enterprise News, mould tends to thrive in houses damaged by water and in moist environments, so when homeowners are carrying out their end of tenancy cleaning, they should be aware of musty, earthy odours.

If mould is not cleaned up as soon as possible, a number of symptoms can ensue, such as eye irritation, skin complaints, nasal stuffiness, coughing, wheezing and throat irritation.

Those with chronic lung illnesses such as obstructive lung diseases may also contract dangerous infections if they are exposed to mould for protracted periods of time.

According to Enterprise News, the first step to take is to use a dehumidifier to extract moisture from the air, open the windows and throw away materials such as mattresses, carpets, rugs and upholstered furniture than have been infected by mould.

“Wallboard, drywall and particle board are also porous and should be discarded,” the publication said.

“Workers should wear masks, protective eyewear and non-porous gloves while handling anything that is suspected of containing mould.”

All areas should then be thoroughly cleaned with a non-ammonia detergent and hot water. Professional advice should be sought for area larger than ten square feet.
