Day in and day out we drive on the surface, so the stains will be sure to appear sooner rather than later. Unfortunately, getting rid of these reoccurring nuisances requires a bit of elbow grease. Fortunately, there is much that can be done about these stains! If you have a power washer this is the most logical remedy. Most of the time, a power washer will take the markings right out of the cement. Regrettably, most of us do not own or have easy access to a power washer. You could rent one for about fifty dollars for the afternoon, if you’d like to go that route, although there are cheaper options that don’t require much more effort on your part. The first step is to use a hard bristled broom to remove as much of the staining as possible. Then, you can try scrubbing the area with Simple Green multi-purpose cleaner, or any multipurpose cleaner you have on hand. It’s worth a shot, and surprisingly a lot of the time it’ll work. Simple Green comes in a concentrated form, which is why it’s said to work so well. A degreaser works very well on tire marks, probably the best solution for the problem. Degreasers penetrate concrete surfaces to soften, lift, and remove tire marks and similar contaminants. Orange citrus concentrate cleaner is what is used commercially for degreasing and cleaning concrete flooring. Orange citrus concentrate is preferred because at full strength, it makes stain removal quick and easy. Degreasers just need to be given some time to remove the stain, and repeat applications may be needed. To make the best use of a degreaser it to wet concrete, work it in with a brush and let it sit overnight. Scrub again with a brush and rinse with cold water. You can prevent much of the mess caused by tire marks by using a cure and seal product. The product will form a barrier on top of the concrete. The idea behind using one of these products is to lock out as much of the dirt and stains as possible. When looking for a cure and seal product you should look for cures that are rated in moisture retention ability and film thickness. Usually these two properties go hand in hand, making it easy to select the best product for you. Look for a cure or sealer that meets the new criteria of having 25% solids as minimum, and moisture retention ability greater than low solids formula’s of the past. A great product to try is Dress and Seal WB 30 or Lumiseal plus WB, which are both quality products to seal and cure your concrete flooring. With these simple solutions your concrete should be less of a hassle, and it should be better looking, too! As with most staining, prevention and a quick response time are crucial in permanent stain removal. |
